Weekly round up: 17 June 2019

There were no big local events this week but members still kept themselves on the medal trail.

Goff and Cathie Welchman took part in the Dawlish Coastal Dash, a 4 mile mixed terrain run in the scenic coastal spot, finishing in 37.16 and 42.39 respectively.

It was a short trip up the M5 for Bev Collins and Rob Murr who took part in the Cheddar Gorge Marathon on Sunday. The weekend rain mean a late change to the course to avoid any danger of drowning in the water features and gave the runners a lot of challenging terrain in the 4 laps. Well done to Bev for her 5.56 finish and for having a cup of tea on hand for Rob when he crossed the line in 6.28.

Martock 10K saw Ray Tutton achieve 2nd in his age group with a 44.05 time and Peta Aspden finish in 57.05.

Simon Rowland travelled to Exeter for the Age Concern 10K and earned himself a nice course PB of 51.06.

We’re all avidly following the progress of Club member Tara Robertson as she and her fellow Mind Over Matter team take part in the Race Across America cycle race. Her team, all of whom have faced their own personal challenges, are tackling 3,000 miles of cycling covering 12 states and over 170,000 feet of climbing as they make their way to the finish in New York.

Parkrun tourists ventured to Plymvalley, Southsea, Minehead, Hackworth, Seaton, Blanford, Burnham, Severn Bridge, Malborough Common and Jersey. Thirty took on the local course at Longrun Meadow where Andrew Saunders achieved a new PB and Sam Wharton earned herself the coveted 100 parkrun tshirt.
